Emergency crews put on standby at Sydney airport after a reported engine failure on Boeing 737
flight from Auckland to Sydney has issued a mayday call due to a reported engine failure.
Qantas flight 144 was approaching Sydney airport on Wednesday afternoon and was scheduled to land about 3.30pm. The Boeing 737 left Auckland an hour late about 2.30pm local time. The aircraft is capable of landing with one engine.A source told Guardian Australia the issue was a reported engine failure. Authorities were otherwise silent on the specifics of the incident.
Guardian Australia contacted Qantas, the Civil Aviation Safety Authority and Airservices Australia all of which declined to comment immediately. Emergency crews are on standby at the airport for when the plane lands.
