Senator Budget McKenzie has issued a warning to Qantas bosses about the “swag of questions” on notice after claiming the company brought the “wrong group of people” to the Senate inquiry. A parliamentary inquiry is investigating the government's decision to block extra Qatar Airways flights from coming into Australia. Ms McKenzie questioned Qantas chairman Richard Goyder and CEO Vanessa Hudson about why the company did not bring any members of its government relations team. “I do think it beggar’s belief that a company of your sophistication and muscle has come here today with precisely the wrong group of people to answer Senators’ questions about the relation between Qantas Group and this government,” she said during the inquiry. Ms McKenzie warned there will be a “swag of questions” on notice for Qantas’ government relations team. “If one out of the seven is on holidays I would hope that Qantas Group would show this committee the respect that it needs to and make sure those questions are answered.” She added the inquiry is a “good opportunity” for Qantas to repair its reputation.
