Alan Joyce said the industry is returning to pre-COVID levels and fuel prices are moderating, ahead of what will be a record profit announcement for the Qantas.

The national carrier is expecting to post an underlying profit before tax of between $2.425 and $2.475 billion – which would be the biggest in the airline’s storied history.

Qantas said more flying activity has increased in the second half of the financial year, planes returning to the skies from long-term storage. It also announced an increase in flying from October, which will see the Qantas Group’s international capacity reach upwards of 100 per cent of pre-COVID levels by March next year.
