Former Orlando Pirates defender Sandile Mthethwa is attracting interest from other PSL clubs after being released by the Buccaneers.
A former Orlando Pirates star is already in demand after recently being released by the club, with a January move firmly on the cards. The decision was described as a mutual agreement with the player. Mthethwa had joined Pirates all the way back in 2016. He had also been sent on various loan spells by the club before returning three seasons ago. During that time, he wasn’t a regular for the team but played a crucial role as a backup player.
Notably in the 2022/23 season, he played a key role in the club’s success. Since then, it hasn’t quite worked out for Mthethwa. Last week Pirates released a statement about his release. “Orlando Pirates Football Club can confirm the departure of defender Sandile Mthethwa. Both parties have agreed for the amicable separation to allow him to move to a club of his choice. At 27 years old Mthethwa is entering his prime and whilst the technical team wanted him to stay – the guarantee of regular football was not possible. He will be remembered for his professionalism and discipline at all times. We wish him well as he enters a new chapter in his career.” read parts of the statement. “You remember Chippa wanted him on loan when he was still contracted to Orlando Pirates? Yeah, now they are back and they are looking at what they can do since he is a free agent. Golden Arrows want to strengthen their defence and they feel Mthethwa has what it takes to help them in that department. So, at the moment what I know is that these are the two teams monitoring his situation,” said a source to the same publication.
