Neymar has had several episodes of instability in his right ankle in recent years. theSun theSundaily Neymar ankleinjury surgery PSG

In this file photo taken on March 04, 2023 Paris Saint-Germain’s Brazilian forward Neymar uses crutches as he takes a seat in the stand during the French L1 football match between Paris Saint-Germain and FC Nantes at The Parc des Princes Stadium in Paris/AFPPix: Neymar promised to “come back stronger” after Paris Saint-Germain said on Monday the forward requires ankle surgery and will be out of action for three to four months.

That would appear to end any prospect of Neymar playing again this season, with the Ligue 1 season due to end on June 3 and the Champions League final, if PSG were to get there, a week later in Istanbul. But the 31-year-old has netted only three times in nine appearances since returning from Qatar, where he injured the same ankle playing for Brazil.

Neymar’s fitness has been a regular concern for PSG, since he signed from Barcelona for a world-record fee of 222 million euros in 2017. He didn’t play again for his club that season and faced a race against time to be fit to play for Brazil at that year’s World Cup in Russia.
