Several hundred people took part in a protest in Templemore, Co Tipperary today calling for the local community to be allowed access once again to the swimming pool at the Garda college
The pool has been used for decades by the local community to learn how to swim and for water safety lessons. It was closed in March 2020 because of the pandemic and has not returned to regular public use since then.
The group lead a protest through the town to the gates of the college this afternoon to highlight its campaign. It has also led a strong campaign on social media and has highlighted the issue on local media on both radio and in local newspapers. The Office of Public Works is the property owner, and is the authority which can grant licences to access the pool to schools and community groups through an application process which is managed by the Garda college.
