KOTA KINABALU: The setting up of a proposed state-level inter-party committee on Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) can help unite Sabah leaders regardless of political affiliations to fight for rights under the MA63, says Datuk Ewon Benedick.
The Upko vice-president said as mentioned in his winding-up speech during the recently concluded state assembly meeting, that this suggestion had received a similar response from leaders in and outside the government bloc.“Now, leaders from the government side are also speaking about this in the same tone,” he said in a statement Saturday .
He said the claims for Sabah rights under MA63 and the Federal Constitution were a collective responsibility of all Sabah leaders, even though their approaches to achieve the objective were different. Ewon said the state can introduce a special enhancement to collect the 40% tax revenue owed to Sabah.
