This luxurious home blends preserved details with modern features like a designer lap pool, a putting green, a billiards room and more.

This house has been owned by several influential Calgarians since it was first built in 1912. Alfred Price, a superintendent with the Canadian Pacific Railway, built and first owned the house. Between 1914 and 1918, George Robinson, a Calgary alderman, became the home’s second owner. In 1929, the property became known as the Burns residence when John Burns, nephew of Senator Patrick Burns and president of Burns and Company, moved into the house.

Under his ownership, Burns created an expansive Japanese garden on the adjacent empty lot next to the home. The gardens were filled with various shrubs, flowers and trees native to Japan and around 200 tons of stones filled with fossils. Miniature cliffs, pergolas, stone seats and a central miniature lake were additional features in the garden.

Although the gardens no longer exist, elements such as the original stone walls and stone chairs can still be seen. And while the home itself has been renovated with modern elements, it still preserves the natural charm and many original details. The home is nestled on a sprawling half-acre lot with mature trees, professional landscaping and a private, gated driveway. The decor and details blend modern and luxurious elements with preserved original design.

The main floor is designed for grand-scale entertaining as the room seamlessly connects and flows outside to the large sandstone patio and wood-burning fireplace. Follow the steps down into the garden and towards the designer lap pool with an eye-catching glass tile mosaic. Across the pool, a glass cabana adds a versatile space for different uses, such as a greenhouse or a bar area for entertaining. Golf enthusiasts and guests can enjoy the professional-grade putting green.
