While parts of the country swelter under an early summer, others are in the middle of a bizarre October polar blast.
A heavy stint of snow falling across the mountains of New South Wales, Victoria, and Tasmania have produced some mind-blowing images for those who spent the weekend sweating.
Snow fell to relatively low levels by midmorning, with flakes settling as low as 700 meters above sea level in Tasmania, 1100 meters in the Snowy Mountains of NSW and similar levels in Victoria.
