Projek KVDT2 melibatkan kerja baik pulih landasan kereta api KTM dari Salak Selatan ke Seremban dan dari Kuala Lumpur ke Pelabuhan Klang, meliputi jarak sejauh 211 kilometer.
Membabitkan kos RM5.265 bilion, projek mega itu diberikan oleh kerajaan Barisan Nasional sebelum ini kepada Dhaya Maju-LTAT Sdn Bhd, usaha sama antara Lembaga Tabung Angkatan Tentera dan Dhaya Maju Infrastructure Sdn Bhd.
Bagaimanapun, kontrak itu dibatalkan pada September 2018 oleh kerajaan Pakatan Harapan kerana kosnya yang tinggi, tempoh penyiapan lebih lama iaitu lebih 7 tahun dan cara ia diberikan menerusi rundingan terus.
