Vinyl turntable manufacturer Pro-Ject has just launched two new CD players. The CD Box DS3 and S3 are part of a new collection of hifi separates for those of us who love our silver discs.
The Box DS3 is compliant with the Red Book, the standard that specifies the physical parameters and properties of Digital Audio Compact Discs . Compared to DVD or Blu-ray players, purist CD players are optimized explicitly for 1:1 playback of the Red Book CDDA standard and, as such, offer a higher level of audio performance.
An intelligent suspension system on the Box DS3 has three elastic points that isolate the drive from external vibration. High-frequency vibrations caused by the fast movement of the laser can easily pass into the massive chassis via a single hard point. Stamped metal housings are not torsion-resistant or accurate enough for mounting a sensitive CD drive in where the laser position must be exact.
