Princess Anne apparently made sure her children were on their best behavior when they went to Buckingham Palace to celebrate Queen Elizabeth’s official birthday each June
and her efforts to raise them to have childhoods away from the royal spotlight. When they were born, she declined to give them HRH titles and from a young age, they were boarders at Gordonstoun, a isolated school in northeastern Scotland. Incelebrating Anne’s 70th birthday this weekend, Zara and Peter both discuss their mother’s child rearing techniques and what it was like when they were with the rest of the family for Trooping the Colour.
According to Peter, she always made sure her children were on their best behavior when they went to Buckingham Palace to celebrate’s official birthday each June. “You then get a clip round the ear and say right, ‘behave yourself, you know, we’re going out on the balcony,’” he said. “Don’t pick your nose and you know, don’t yawn.”
For her contribution to the documentary, which airs today, Zara said that despite the rules, the events really solidified her relationship with William and“For me, family occasions were all about hanging out with our cousins and just having as much fun as possible,” she said.
