Fr Appolonius Yakis, assistant priest of St Francis Xavier Cathedral, celebrated the Feast of the Baptism of Jesus with the St Mary's community on January 12th. The celebration began with a Holy Mass. In his homily, Fr Appolonius reminded the faithful of their dignity as children of God, emphasizing the importance of prayer in maintaining this dignity. He also cautioned against excessive use of digital devices, which can hinder communication within families and among individuals. The celebration continued at St Mary's Open Hall in Bingkor with a cake-cutting ceremony, lucky draw, and various performances.

Perayaan dimulakan dengan Misa Kudus. Dalam homilinya, Fr Appolonius mengingatkan umat martabat mereka sebagai anak-anak Tuhan. “Semasa Yesus dibaptis, Tuhan mengatakan “Inilah Anak-Ku yang Ku kasihi”, sekali gus memberi kita gambaran bahawa Sakramen Pembaptisan yang kita terima, turut mengangkat martabat kita sebagai anak-anak Tuhan.”
“Ini adalah kerana Yesus berkomunikasi dengan Bapa-Nya di syurga doa. Oleh sebab itu, melalui doa, kita dapat berkomunikasi dengan Yesus. Maka, berdoalah sekerap mungkin kerana ia pasti membantu kita mengakrabkan perhubungan dengan Yesus Kristus.”
