On Sunday, tourists get another attraction to add to their San Francisco to-do list. Presidio Tunnel Tops is new federal parkland that has been built in an unusual place -- on top of a busy highway tunnel.
This rendering shows the Campfire Circle, with a central gas firepit and seating for up to 75. It's planned as a spot for ranger talks or community gatherings.While those Golden Gate views are going to be a certain highlight, the park plans other features for the city's residents and many tourists.
This rendering is of Golden Gate Meadow. It's meant to be a gathering area surrounded by gardens, tall native grasses and perennials. The park plans it to be used for picnics, kite-flying and connecting with nature.Art murals, picnic areas, a campfire circle and meadows for kite-flying have also been added.
"The Presidio is one of San Francisco's unique attractions -- a national park destination within an urban destination. Still, some travelers are not as familiar with the Presidio as they are with the city's other iconic sights," said Hubertus Funke, executive vice president and chief tourism officer of the San Francisco Travel Association.
