President Ramaphosa leads tributes for SA's latest Olympic hero Jo-Ane van Dyk

South Africa's Jo-Ane van Dyk celebrates after winning silver in the women's javelin at Paris Olympics.

In her third attempt of six, Van Dyk launched a 63.93m heave, landing the javelin just short of the personal best of 64.22m, which she had set in the qualifying earlier this week. The 26-year-old Van Dyk became the second South African to medal in javelin, replicating Sunette Viljoen's silver at the 2016 Rio Olympics.

This brings Team SA's medal tally to six so far with one Olympic day to go. Jo-Ane van Dyk is a two time African champion and tonight has been elevated to Olympic Silver medalist. This is South Africa's first medal in javelin since 2016. Congratulations Jo Ane. ????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
