“The actions we’re taking today are about dignity, security, and peace of mind for working families and caregivers all across the country, and they’re good for the economy as well,” Biden said Tuesday.
It also asks the Department of Health and Human Services to implement policies aimed at boosting pay and job quality for early educators. The fact sheet says HHS will take steps to increase the pay and benefits for Head Start teachers and staff, and implement policies so more child care providers who benefit from Child Care and Development Block Grants get higher reimbursements for the children they serve.
The order also aims to help family caregivers, and those who provide care to the elderly and people with disabilities. It aims to boost access to home-based care for veterans, improve the quality of elderly and disability care jobs, and make it easier for care workers to form unions. Biden described his executive order as “the most comprehensive set of actions any administration has taken to date to increase access to high-quality childcare and long-term care and support for the caregivers.
