Rev. Dan Robertson was voted in as the Church’s fifth senior pastor at a special congregational meeting June 25 and presided over his first service Aug. 20.
“The warmth of the community at the Presbyterian Church of Western Springs is one of the first things my family and I noticed since moving here a few weeks ago,” Robertson said in his first official communication. “We are thrilled to be in Western Springs, have our children in school here , and live in this community.”
Robertson sat at his desk on a sunny, fall Monday and talked about his experiences, what led him to pick Presbyterian Church of Western Springs as his latest ministry, and amplifying on his first impressions of the community. “The first time I went to the grocery store,” Robertson said with a laugh. “Some things weren’t so expensive, but somethings were a lot more expensive. The cost of milk was three times higher here.”“I would say Western Springs is the closest to how we grew up,” he said. “Sara and I both grew up in the suburbs of Kansas City. So this definitely feels the closest to how we grew up. There’s that kind of instant familiarity.
“It’s really taught me the importance of learning and listening when you go into any new place,” he said. “I find it’s not helpful to go in and assume you know it all.”“I’m very much open to conversation with anybody,” he said. “There was a Methodist church, First United Methodist Church, that did a youth mission trip last summer and we’re already planning another one next summer. We’re just looking to build on that.
