Power outage leaves thousands without electricity in San Diego, East County [Breaking]
A power outage left up to 62,000 homes in central and eastern San Diego and portions of East County without power Tuesday morning, and utility crews were working to restore service, a San Diego Gas & Electric Co. spokesperson said.
Electricity went out at thousands of homes shortly after 9:45 a.m. and eventually affected communities from San Diego to Lemon Grove and Spring Valley. Communities in the city of San Diego that were affected included City Heights, Chollas Creek, Oak Park, Lincoln Park, Logan Heights, Kensington, Talmadge and the College Area. Also without power were customers in La Mesa, Spring Valley and Rancho San Diego.“We are still out there trying to figure out what is going on,” Welling said. “Our dispatch is working fast and furious with the field crews trying to determine exactly what happened. That way we can fix it as safety and quickly as possible.
Welling said the initial outage knocked power out for around 34,000 customers. Within an hour, that number jumped to around 62,000. By 11 a.m., however, power had been restored to about half the customers, with just under 33,000 still without service.
