Episod kemurungan ini boleh bermula semasa kehamilan atau dalam tempoh empat minggu selepas kelahiran.

“Punca meroyan yang spesifik tidak dapat ditentukan namun begitu seperti kebanyakan penyakit mental lain, ia boleh terjadi atas beberapa faktor risiko. “Sementara ada yang mungkin mengalami kemurungan lebih teruk dan kronik yang memerlukan rawatan perubatan. Secara umumnya, gangguan ini memberi kesan kepada keseimbangan emosi dan mental ibu atau pesakit,” terangnya.
Justeru, ibu yang mengalami meroyan perlu diberikan rawatan sewajarnya. Rawatan bergantung kepada tahap keterukan yang dihadapi oleh setiap individu.
