Portion of Indiana Avenue to be dedicated as 'Madam Walker Memorial Way'

INDIANAPOLIS — On Friday, people in Indianapolis will head downtown to dedicate a stretch of road toThe process of honoring Walker with the street dedication began more than a year ago.

In addition to the street dedication, plans will be laid out for the future of the Madam Walker Legacy Center. Walker's great-great granddaughter will be a special guest for the event.Leaders have unveiled a four-year strategic plan which outlines new programming and building upgrades including a new sign.

"Some of what we are doing here today, as far as uplifting her legacy with this designation, creation of our endowment, and just continuing to be financially sustainable, 100% debt free," said Kristian Little Stricklen, president of the center.
