The iconic Port Fairy Folk Festival is world-renowned, but behind the throngs of people flocking to see their favourite musician is a small army of volunteers who ensure the event runs smoothly.

Among those volunteering was Miranda McLean from Melbourne. She was only 18, but it was her eighth time attending the festival with her family. "When you're here just as a member of the public, people are friendly, but it's next level when you're wearing the yellow volunteer's t-shirt and you're up for a chat."Festival program director Justin Rudge said the festival was founded on community-oriented values.
She began volunteering about 25 years ago, when festival tickets were hand-written, one by one, on a kitchen table."The involvement is fabulous and personally rewarding," she said.
