I tried Popeyes' new strawberry-frosted biscuit — and I'm glad I finally don't have to order jelly with my meal
Fast food chain Popeyes just released a new biscuit flavor, but you better move fast — the strawberry-flavored pastry is only here for a limited time.
The strawberry biscuit was launched at participating locations on March 27, so I decided to visit the Popeyes closest to me to give them a try before it's too late."The perfect combination of our classic, buttery biscuits and the flavor of ripe, fruity strawberries, Strawberry Biscuits offer a delicious touch of sweetness to any meal," Popeyes Vice President of Culinary Innovation Amy Alarcon said in a statement.
Like Alarcon suggested, the pastry tasted like a classic biscuit with the hints of sweetness from a strawberry jelly. My first bite of the new dessert didn't taste much different than the standard biscuit that comes with each meal, and initially I wasn't very impressed. However, as I reached the soft the center of the pastry, I realized the sweet addition made my usual side of jelly less than necessary to enjoy the baked good.
Though the biscuits have been available for less than a week, the treats have already sparked debate online. Many users expressed concern about the amount of calories in each biscuit, though some appeared to misread the nutrition facts. According to the Popeyes menu, a single biscuit is about 290 calories. It's unclear how long the biscuits will be available, but social media is prompting many to try the conversation-starting treats for themselves.
