Pope Francis received an ecumenical delegation from Finland on Monday, January 23rd, during the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity. He emphasized the importance of Christian hope in the Lord, reminding the delegation that 'neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor rulers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation,' will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Pope Francis received an ecumenical delegation from Finland on Monday, as part of the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity . The delegation traveled to Rome for the feast of Saint Henrik, an annual visit they make during this week of prayer (January 18-25). The Holy Father, referring to the Book of Hebrews, reminded the group that on their journey of faith, 'Let us hold fast to the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who has promised is faithful.
' In this context, Pope Francis highlighted Saint Henrik as 'so to speak, an enduring icon of this hope,' which 'has its sure and enduring foundation in God.'He said, 'As a messenger of peace, he exhorts us to persevere in praying for the precious yet fragile gift of peace.' Reflecting on Christian faith in the Lord and the importance of praying together for peace, Pope Francis emphasized that Jesus Christ Himself is Truth Incarnate, our Lord and our Saviour, and that we are to welcome His love. The Pope insisted that hope in the Lord never disappoints. He quoted Romans 8:38-39: 'For 'neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor rulers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation,' will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.'Pope Francis concluded his remarks by calling on the ecumenical vocation, 'To testify to this incarnate love, is our ecumenical vocation, in the communion of all the baptized.' He then invited those present to join him in praying the Lord's Prayer together, thanked them for their visit, and imparted upon them God's blessing
