JOHOR BARU: All district police chiefs in Johor have been directed to keep a watchful eye around all houses of worship in the state following the terrorist attacks in Sri Lanka on Easter Sunday last week.
Johor deputy police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Mohd Kamarudin Mohd Din said police would continue to keep vigilant for any possible threat.
"There is no doubt that the threat posed by foreign Islamist extremist groups is still here in the country, including Johor, but the situation is under control," he said during a blood donation drive in conjunction with the 212th Police Day celebrations at a shopping complex in Taman Pelangi here on Wednesday .
He said the police, together with the security agencies, were working closely to monitor the people's movements at the Johor Causeway here and the Second Link Crossing in Tanjung Kupang, Gelang Patah. "We are also monitoring those entering and leaving the country via Johor using ferry terminals," said DCP Mohd Kamarudin.
More than 300 people were killed in Sri Lanka during the Easter Sunday bomb attacks on churches and high-end hotels in the country's capital Colombo, Negombo town, north of the capital and the east-coast town of Batticaloa.
