Watch Live: Police are chasing a car on the 5 Freeway in the East LA area.
The red SUV was driving northbound on the 5 Freeway the whole time. It crossed Montebello, Commerce, and Boyle Heights before making its way to the San Fernando Valley.
Police originally approached the stopped vehicle, which had Arizona plates, in Orange County, thinking it had been abandoned. The driver then took off. Officers were finally able to lay down a spike strip in Sun Valley, popping the vehicle's tires. However, the driver refused to stop, with sparks flying as she drove on the rims at slow speeds.Sign up for NBC LA newsletters.
The woman drove through Pacoima and Mission Hills before police spun out her car in Sylmar. Despite the SUV being disabled, the woman refused to get out, prompting police officers to break a window and then pull her out as they took her into custody.
