National School District notified parents of the threat last week
Investigators detained an 11-year-old in connection with a bomb threat made against a National City elementary school last month, police said. Staff from Lincoln Acres Elementary School told police on Sept. 1 that a voicemail had been left at the school, threatening students and teachers, National School District Superintendent Leighangela Brady said in an email to parents last week. The voicemail said the bomb would target students and teachers on Oct. 18.
The message to parents also said that classes would be remote for the day because the investigation into the threat was ongoing. On Tuesday, a day before the date given in the voicemail, detectives and officers identified and located the child believed to be responsible for the threat, National City police said in a news release. Investigators said they had worked with local, state and federal law enforcement agencies and found “substantial evidence” connecting the 11-year-old to the threat.
