KUCHING: People in Sarawak must get police permission to travel between yellow and green zones in Sarawak from Aug 1-14, says Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah.

The Deputy Chief Minister said Kuching, Samarahan and Serian divisions, which were yellow zones, were grouped into zone one while zone two covered the green zones of Sri Aman, Betong, Sarikei, Sibu, Kapit, Mukah, Bintulu, Miri and Limbang."There will be exemptions for those on official duty, working in essential services, or who need to travel due to death or critical illness in the family or go for a medical check-ups.

He said the inter-zone travel restrictions, which had been approved by the Federal Government, would come into effect from Aug 1-14.He also said businesses in Kuching, Samarahan and Serian can only open from 6am to 10pm effective Aug 1-14. "The state government appeals to the public for their cooperation. We understand this will cause inconvenience and stress but these strategies are necessary to ensure the number of Covid-19 cases will not rise and the curve will be flattened," he said.

Of the total, Kuching district recorded 52 cases comprising 38 local transmissions and 14 imported cases in the last 14 days, while Samarahan reported 11 local and two import cases.
