The officer injured during the Denver parade to celebrate the Nuggets' win had to receive surgery as a result of being run over by a fire truck.
Sgt. Justin Dodge was walking along the front passenger side of a Denver Fire Department engine Thursday when the vehicle, carrying Nikola Jokic, his daughter, teammate Jamal Murray, and team owner Stan Kroenke made a turn. Dodge, a member of the SWAT team, had been focused on the fans that were clamoring around the fences set up on the parade path and stepped closer to the vehicle, which ultimately caught ahold of his left leg, sending it under the wheels.
Thomas reported that Dodge's limb is still threatened. Denver Police Department confirmed that Dodge remains in serious but stable condition. The police chief did not blame the paradegoers for the injury."The only safety challenge we faced at that point was the injury that happened to the officer as he was protecting these community members from the fire trucks," Thomas said."The officer was doing his job, protecting the public, and unfortunately was injured.
