Modern European and International History Senior Lecturer Dr Marco Duranti says French police have complained about the “lack of training” in handling the situations that have led to nationwide protests in France.

Dr Duranti’s remarks come after protestors tried to set fire to a suburban Paris mayor’s home overnight following the fifth day of violent protests across France.

“Police haven’t had the right kind of training; the police themselves have complained about really just having online videos that they’ve been required to look at,” Dr Duranti told Sky News Australia.
