KAJANG: A total of 13 people were detained for driving recklessly following an operation near the Bangi toll plaza.

Selangor Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Supt Azman Shari'at said 453 summonses were also issued for various traffic violations during the operation held between 11pm on Saturday and 6am on Sunday.

"A total of 247 people along with 227 motorcycles and 12 cars were checked during the operation. We are serious about nabbing those who endanger themselves and other motorists," he told reporters on Sunday . Two of the motorists detained also tested positive for consuming drugs while another had used a stolen vehicle, he added.He added that the operation also included Selangor Road Transport Department personnel and officers.

"Those detained were brought to the Kajang district police headquarters. We are investigating the cases under Section 42 of the Road Transport Act 1987, Section 15 of the Dangerous Drugs Act and Section 379A of the Penal Code," he said. Supt Azman reminded all motorists and road users to abide by traffic rules and regulations at all times.
