Police arrest three men for playing with carbide cannon in Perak field

SERI ISKANDAR: The police have arrested three men for playing with a homemade carbide cannon at the Desa KPMP field in Kampung Gajah near here.

Perak Tengah OCPD Supt Barudin Wariso said the three men from Kampung Gajah, were caught by police personnel on a routine Covid-19 Task Force patrol at about 10.30pm when they were playing at the field.

He said those arrested were electrical technicians Mohammad Fahmi Azahari, 22, from Kampung Setia, and Mohammad Nur Zafri Azma, 19, from Felcra Changkat Lada and sugar cane juice seller Muhamad Afifuddin Aznan, 22, from Taman Seri Setia. “They could not provide any valid reason as to why they were there and were therefore arrested, ” he said, adding that all three were brought back to the Perak Tengah police station for investigation.Supt Barudin said among the items seized included a modified black PVC pipe, a modified cement pipe, a wooden support, white powder believed to be carbide, a bottle believed to contain diesel and a modified wooden stick that was attached to a steel bowl.

He added that the three men will be investigated under Section 8 of the Explosives Act, which carries a maximum seven-year jail term, a RM10,000 fine or both upon conviction. “They don’t have any previous criminal records and tested negative for drugs. All of them will be remanded from Wednesday , ” he added.
