A 36-year-old Union County man was charged with murder and weapons offenses for a fatal shooting last year, according to officials.

Deshon Fleming, 36 of Elizabeth, was charged with murder and weapons offenses in the killing of Shamar Brown, 34, also a city resident, according to the Union County Prosecutor’s Office. Fleming remained at large after charges were filed in February, authorities said. Police and agents with the federal“We are appreciative of the collaboration with the local and federal law enforcement agencies who assisted our Office in locating and apprehending the suspect,” Union County Prosecutor William A. Daniel said in a statement. “And we hope that this arrest can bring some small measure of comfort to all those grieving Mr. Brown.
Elizabeth police found Brown shot Dec. 16 around 8:30 p.m. near Second and Bond Streets in the city, according to Union County Assistant Prosecutor Scott Peterson, who is prosecuting the case. Brown died at the scene. Authorities did not comment on a possible motive for the fatal shooting. Anyone with information was asked to call Union County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Task Force Sgt.
