Politicians will promise you a lot of things. Whether they keep the promises or not, it’s for the people to find out. Now, when it comes to “Win today, cheaper fuel prices tomorrow,” does it ring any bell?
In a recent speech, he told Malaysians that it doesn’t make sense to relate the cost today, in 2024 to something he said 16 years ago. “Today, it’s RM2.05 per liter. In the UAE, it’s RM2.95 per liter. You can only get cheap fuel in Brunei. The cost is higher. How can you relate the costs in 2008 and 2024? That’s basic economics,” Anwar said.
“The targeted subsidy was not done back then because it wasn’t easy, and it was also tied to political survival.”
