Anthony Albanese responded to a radio listener who questioned how he can argue for taxpayer funds to be allocated to promoting the Voice, given the cost-of-living crisis facing many Australians.
“We have cheaper childcare comes in on July 1. We are doing all of those things that affect a vast number of Australians.”
“But it just might make a positive difference for some of the most disadvantaged Australians,” he added.“I understand many people are doing it tough and that’s why introduced those measures in the budget.” Mr Albanese believed Australians had the opportunity to"go one better" than the 1967 referendum, in which 90 per cent of Australians voted to remove, what he described, as a"harmful, discriminatory relic".
"Yes, there are scare campaigns. What those campaigns have in common is that they underestimate Australians so radically," he said."Australians won't succumb to their appeals to fear and their ever more ludicrous invitations to jump at our own shadows."
