KUALA LUMPUR, May 5 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has dismissed persistent rumours of an ouster plot and told his challengers to table a no-confidence vote in Parliament.

He has terse words for those who continue to challenge his administration and sow public unease by claiming to have persuaded some government federal lawmakers to defect to the Perikatan Nasional coalition through signing statutory declarations of support. “If he has it, just bring it to Parliament,” Anwar replied when asked about one such rumour that Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin convinced some backbenchers to sign the SDs.

Speculation that support for PN is gaining ground has been growing in the last few days, propped up by news reports and photos showing PN leaders and Anwar’s arch rival Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad together. Yesterday, PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang shared pictures of his meeting with Dr Mahathir and a statement that both have agreed to collaborate in a movement to establish “Malay political dominance”.
