KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 18 — The government remained confident to meet its gross domestic product forecast of 4.0 per cent to 5.0 per cent for 2023 as the domestic economy remains vibrant with many indicators showing healthy trends, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
“Inflation fell from 2.8 per cent in May to 2.4 per cent in June 2023, and unemployment achieved a new post-pandemic low of 3.4 per cent in June 2023, down from 3.5 per cent in May,” Anwar said in a statement issued by the Ministry of Finance . The 2Q 2023 GDP which expanded by 2.9 per cent, bringing the first half of 2023’s growth to 4.2 per cent, is in line with the government’s growth forecast of 4.0 per cent to 5.0 per cent for 2023.
“On the supply side, Malaysia’s economic expansion in 2Q 2023 was underpinned by growth in the construction, services and manufacturing sectors.
