Plugable's new 140W MacBook Charger With EPR Support uses the latest GaN technology and is suitable for charging tablets and phones too.

The new adapter supports fast EPR charging up to 140W, making it ideal for Apple MacBook users. Plugable says that its testing has shown that when the power adapter is paired with a MagSafe cable, it can charge a 16-inch MacBook Pro from 0% to 50% in less than 30 minutes and get it to full charge in under 90 minutes.

The charger negotiates the optimal charging rate for the device under charge. It will safely charge any Mac and Windows device up to the wattage it demands without damaging the battery. The power adapter also works well with tablets and smartphones, such as the iPad Pro and Surface Pro. While only a few laptops, like the newer generation 16-inch MacBook Pro, support EPR charging, Plugable claims this power adapter has been designed to be compatible with the increased power needs of future devices.

The current 16-inch MacBook Pro must be used with a MagSafe cord for 140W charging. Any device that supports USB EPR must use an EPR-compatible cable, such as Plugable’s TBT4-240W-1M or USB4-240W-1M. The market for laptop chargers is booming now that USB-C is becoming the common standard. However, not all chargers have strong thermal performance, the ability to last under load, or the certifications and regulatory approvals. Plugable says its new USB-C Power Adapter meets all these standards thanks to UL, FCC and DOE certifications.
