A plea agreement was reached Thursday for a former West Virginia officer who was charged in connection with the disappearance of police K-9 Chase.
Marcus Dudley, 26, formerly of South Charleston, pleaded guilty to misdemeanor charges of animal cruelty, making false statements and obstruction Thursday.on three counts of falsely reporting an emergency, two counts of making false statements and obstructing an officer and one count of animal cruelty.
The indictment stated on April 11, Dudley contacted emergency dispatchers in regards to the missing K-9 and provided inconsistent statements on the dog's location. On April 14, investigators said Dudley impeded the investigation by making "materially false statements" to a captain with South Charleston police. By this time, Dudley had apparently changed his story. The indictment notes Dudley told the captain that Chase had escaped "from an unidentified park at or near Charleston, West Virginia."Dudley was dismissed from the Chapmanville Police Department shortly after Chase’s disappearance.
