This August, moviegoers can see classics like 'The Godfather' and 'The Sound of Music,' plus fan favorites like 'Batman' and 'Independence Day.' Find all the films and showing times:
Playhouse Square's Connor Palace opened in 1922 as a vaudeville and movie theater. CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Playhouse Square’s Connor Palace opened as a vaudeville and movie theater back in 1922 but has been home to Broadway-style entertainment since 1988. But for three weeks in August, the ornate theater will be transformed back into a movie palace once again for the return of the classic film series known as Cinema at the Square.
From Aug. 4-21, movie fans can enjoy 15 films presented in their original 35mm projection format on a 20 ft. x 47 ft. widescreen. Selections range from classics like “The Godfather,” “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” and “The Sound of Music” to fan-favorite blockbusters like “Batman,” “Independence Day” and “Men and Black.” There is something for everybody, including kids , adults and families .
Forget the easy trivia and endless advertisements, each screening will be preceded by a performance by members of the Western Reserve Theatre Organ Society on the theater’s fully restored 1928 Kimball organ. Classic movie theater concessions will be available for purchase, too. Presented by Medical Mutual, Cinema at the Square was last held in 2019.
