The transformation of the East Perth power station site, described as a derelict eyesore, has been put on ice, following two years of negotiations between the WA government and billionaires Kerry Stokes and Andrew Forrest.

In 2020, Andrew Forrest's Minderoo Group was named as a preferred proponent along with Kerry Stokes's Australian Capital Equity to turn the 109-year-old East Perth power station site into a usable precinct that would include residential, shopping and eating-out options. Seven Group also owns 40 per cent of Seven West Media, which owns The West Australian, the state's only daily newspaper. In a leaked video message sent to staff last month, Mr Forrest reportedly said The West Australian's coverage of Fortescue was "driven by the narrow, self-seeking, commercial interest" of Mr Stokes's Seven Group.
"It must be noted it came after our stories holding FMG to account when WorkSafe was forced to take the serious step of laying charges over one of WA's biggest companies refusing to release documents relating to alleged sexual harassment at its sites," De Ceglie said in his editorial.Lands Minister John Carey said in a statement the government remained committed to redeveloping the site.

‘We are one’: Perrottet argues ‘battle’ between Sydney’s east and west is pointlessThe NSW Premier has argued the so-called “battle” between Sydney's east and west is pointless in relation to infrastructure and housing reforms. Speaking at the Daily Telegraph’s Future Western Sydney Summit, Dominic Perrottet faced off against NSW Labor Leader Chris Minns over their vision for the region. “This whole east versus west thing; we shouldn’t be having that debate,” Mr Perrottet said. “We are one state, we are one people with high ambitions for everybody. “And the reality, as Sydney grows, it is growing in Western Sydney and that is a good thing, not a bad thing.”
