According to Sen. Padilla, the fictional film put the Philippines in a negative light since it showed Filipino terrorists taking foreigners hostage in Jolo, Sulu. According to MTRCB's official statement signed by MTRCB chairperson Lala Sotto Antonio, "the Board was in the process of re-evaluating the film 'Plane' in response to the objections raised by concerned groups" when the film distributor voluntarily pulled out the movie.According to the MTRCB, the distributor also intends to provide the MTRCB with a "new version of the film for appropriate review and classification.

In the film, Gerard Butler plays a pilot who finds himself in a war zone after he's forced to land an airplane during a storm. Mike Colter and Tony Goldwyn co-star.
