Authorities say the plane crashed while attempting a landing at Madison County Airport, which is just west of Columbus.

FlightAware shows the plane took off at 5:05 p.m. and made several loops near the airport. It was in the air for approximately one hour and 14 minutes before crashing. The Dispatch reports the plane is owned by American Flight Line, which is located in Jasper, Alabama. WBNS reports investigators with the National Transportation Safety Board and the Highway Patrol believe the plane was attempting to land when it crashed.
