A source from American Airlines informed Reuters that the plane was scheduled to carry 60 passengers and two pilots, along with two flight attendants. The military helicopter was reported to be carrying three personnel. As of NBC's reporting, four individuals were rescued from the Potomac River. A webcam recording from the Kennedy Center captured an explosion in the sky around 8:47 PM local time, followed by the burning plane rapidly plunging into the river. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) issued a statement confirming that the passenger jet collided with the military helicopter as it approached the runway at Reagan Airport. American Airlines Flight 5342, operated by PSA Airlines on behalf of American Airlines, departed from Wichita, Kansas.
