This came after PLA aircraft conducted over sorties to Taiwan's southwestern airspace this month.
The PLA could use these operations to effectively lockdown the area from foreign forces while ensuring that Taiwan's forces cannot escape, Song toldSenior Colonel Wu Qian, a Chinese Defence Ministry spokesperson, said at a regular press conference last Wednesday the PLA has been on high alert and has sufficient capabilities to safeguard national sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Wu said Taiwan, which adopts an antagonistic stance towards Beijing and is close to the US, is an inalienable part of China. Many of these missions are believed to be countermeasures against US military aircraft approaches to or crossing of Taiwan Island.
