New Jersey will form a new task force examining the potential benefits and pitfalls that the quickly evolving — and closely scrutinized — technology ofestablishing the state’s Artificial Intelligence Task Force to analyze how AI can effect society, including creating jobs, fostering economic growth, helping research at colleges, and improving government services. It will also make recommendations on how the government can encourage the ethical use of the technology.
“I am proud to establish a Task Force that will not only work to understand the benefits of AI but also analyze its growth and potential risks,” Murphy added. “It is critical that New Jersey continue to foster an environment for innovation while protecting individual and civil rights, and I am confident that the AI Task Force will further this important mission.”
Murphy also announced New Jersey’s government will teach state workers about AI’s development, use, and risk though a free training session in the coming months launched by the state’s Office of Innovation. Joining Noveck as co-chairs of the task force will be Chris Rein, the state Office of Information Technology’s chief technology officer, and Tim Sullivan, CEO of the Economic Development Authority.
