Faithful members of the Apostolic Catholic Church (ACC), led by The Most Rev. Brent Harry Alawas, Acting Chairperson of the National Council of Churches in the Philippines (NCCP), gathered at the National Shrine of the Paraclete on Thursday, January 23, 2025. The gathering was part of Day Seven of the “Week of Prayer for Christian Unity 2025,” which coincided with the celebration of the 1,700th anniversary of the Nicene Creed.
This annual observance highlights the importance of Christian unity, urging the faithful to deepen their faith, foster solidarity, and uphold their shared mission of prayer, dialogue, and action. They were joined by representatives from the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP), including Fr. Ferdinand Santos of the Episcopal Commission on Ecumenical Affairs (ECEA), as well as ACC Vice-Chancellor His Eminence Juan Telesforo Jestoni Del Valle and ACC Patriarch His Holiness John Almario. The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity is an annual ecumenical initiative observed by Christian communities worldwide. It is traditionally held from January 18 to 25, a period that bridges the feast days of St. Peter and St. Paul, two key figures symbolizing unity in the Christian faith. The event, first organized in 1908, aims to foster reconciliation and solidarity among various Christian denominations, emphasizing their shared faith and mission despite theological and cultural differences. Each year, the observance is guided by a specific theme, carefully chosen to inspire reflection and action toward achieving greater harmony among Christians. For 2025, the theme of the Week of Prayer focuses on celebrating the 1,700th anniversary of the Nicene Creed, a foundational statement of Christian belief formulated at the First Council of Nicaea in 325 AD. This milestone serves as a reminder of the shared heritage of faith and doctrine that unites Christians across traditions. Through prayer services, ecumenical gatherings, and joint initiatives, participants are encouraged to reflect on their commitment to unity, building bridges of understanding and collaboration in pursuit of the Christian mission of peace and love
