Carjackings happened more than a thousand times in 2022 in Philadelphia, up 55% from 2021. It is a new record for the city.
District Attorney Larry Krasner announced a new carjacking enforcement unit in order to deal with the increasing crime.
The unit is focused on the prosecution of people accused of violent carjackings and will be funded by the city for the next six months. "I'm upset about what's going on in the city right now. Because a lot of people need these vehicles for their kids, to get to work, to get to school. It's really sad," said Sherise.
On Friday, the stand-up comedian is doing what she does best: comedy. She's currently working on a new skit about her experience. "I finally cried about it like last week. I like to laugh at my pain like Kevin Hart says. That's what a lot of us comedians do," said Sherise. "I'm just happy to be here. I'm happy to be alive. A lot of people's stories don't end that way at all. Sometimes people kill you, and take your stuff."Authorities are still searching for the suspects.
