The Philippine government will discuss its plans for Filipinos who are currently situated in Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip amid the ongoing conflict with Israel, Foreign Affairs Secretary Enrique Manalo said Thursday.
“That’s what we have to discuss, how we will deal with them,” Manalo said in an ambush interview at the Senate. Foreign Affairs Undersecretary Eduardo de Vega on Wednesday said there are 70 Filipinos in Gaza who are seeking repatriation amid the ongoing armed conflict between Israel and the Palestinian militant group Hamas. “There are about 70 Filipinos in Gaza seeking repatriation, but the problem is that Gaza is under blockade.
In the same interview, Manalo said they are “constantly monitoring and trying to verify” information if there are any other Filipino casualties in the Israel-Hamas conflict. Israel is home to at least 30,000 workers from the Philippines, most of them caregivers, while 167 Filipinos are in Gaza Strip. The DFA earlier reported that two Filipinos were killed following Hamas’ attack on Israel.
