THE Department of National Defense on Wednesday expressed 'great concern' over the reported 'swarming of Chinese vessels' in Iroquois Reef and Sabina Shoal in the West Philippine Sea .'The President's directive to the Department is clear — we will not give up a single square inch of Philippine territory,' Defense Officer-in-Charge Jose Faustino said.'We continue to conduct routine maritime and aerial patrols in the WPS.
Faustino said that while the country is open for talks over the overlapping claims in the WPS or South China Sea, the parties involved should respect each other. He added that the Philippines does not accept any moves to disturb the peace in the region.'Our lines remain open to dialogue. However, we maintain that activities which violate our sovereignty, sovereign rights, and jurisdiction, and undermine the peace and stability of the region, are unacceptable,' he said.
