A talk hosted by PFA Ireland on Saturday will address key issues with parents of young footballers who are hoping to sign their first professional contract.
Tackling the 'false economy' of the ‘get-out clause’ is just one of the issues that will be tackled on Saturday when parents of young footballing hopefuls attend a seminar hosted by PFA Ireland.
Mandroiu’s contract was running down when he went and Bradley, at the time, pointed to deals Rovers got for the departures of Gavin Bazunu and Liam Scales . “The more a club pays for you, the greater the value you are to them,” he told MirrorSport. “Every time a club pays s**t money for you, they’ll pay s**t wages.
“If a club pays big money, they are under pressure to make that signing work. That’s not the case when they pick someone up for a bargain.“Capping them, as a lot of agents are doing, and as a number of our clubs have accepted, is detrimental to our game. It’s detrimental ultimately to the player. And that’s what we’ll tell parents.“We have to give our clubs the best chance for the investment they’ve made in the kid and the investment in the next kids that come along.
“The one big problem that parents are oblivious to is that when they sign their first professional contract, the player can be retained until the age of 23 by that club,” said McGuinness.“The club isn’t going to say to the parents, do you realise we can keep your son on €130 until he is 23?”Since PFA Ireland publicised the event on their social channels, McGuinness has been fielding calls and emails from parents of young teenage prospects who have yet to sign a professional contract.
“Aaron McEneff, Roberto Lopes, loads of guys have been onto us saying they’d help us promote it. The guys just want everybody to have the advice they didn’t have.”
